Homemade egg nog is a bit laborious but completely worth the extra effort when you take a sip of this delicious holiday drink.
- 6 large eggs
- ⅔ cup whipping cream
- 2 cups whole milk
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 6 oz Distiller’s Workshop Brandy
- grated nutmeg and cinnamon for garnish
Separate the egg yolks into one bowl, and the egg whites into another. Beating the egg components separately is important for the texture, since they thicken up at different paces. Beat the yolks until stiff, and beat the whites with half the sugar until peaks form. Pour the egg whites into the yolks, and gently fold them together.
Separately, beat the cream with vanilla, spices, and the remaining sugar in a bowl until it starts to thicken—stop just before or right when it turns into whip cream. Add whole milk. Slowly fold in the cream with the egg mixture. Add New Deal Brandy and stir gently. Keep refrigerated, or serve immediately. Divide into glasses and garnish with nutmeg and cinnamon.
