This bittersweet refresher combines vodka with grapefruit juice and a hint of Campari or Aperol. It’s bold, zesty, and the perfect choice if you want a break from overly sweet drinks.
This big-batch recipe is designed to be made using a 52-ounce bottle of Simply Grapefruit. Or, you can start with any empty half-gallon container. Some half-gallon containers, widely available from various retailers, are here, or here, or here (which easily converts to a pitcher with this topper).
- 4 cups grapefruit juice (start with a 52-oz bottle of Simply Grapefruit or, if you prefer fresh-squeezed, make sure to strain it as you add the juice to the bottle)
- 1 3/4 cups Portland Dry Gin 33
- 1/2 cup bitter orange liqueur (Campari or Aperol)
- 1/4 cup simple syrup
- ice
- 8 sprigs fresh rosemary, for garnish
- Grapefruit slices, for garnish (optional)
- Salt, for rim (optional)
If you’re starting with a 52-ounce bottle of Simply Grapefruit, pour off 2 ½ cups (or, 20 oz to be precise). If you’re starting with an empty half-gallon bottle, pour in 4 cups (32 oz / 1 qt) of grapefruit juice. Add the remaining ingredients to the bottle. Seal tightly, shake, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
When ready to serve, remove the bottle from the bottle from fridge and shake gently. Add ice to a Collins glass and fill with Italian Greyhound mix. Garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary and a thin slice of grapefruit. Additionally, if you like a salted rim, go for it!
