Covid Update: Our Path Forward
Many have asked when we will be opening our doors again for tastings, classes and events. Like many of you, we have taken the uncertainty and turmoil of this past year as a chance to reflect on the path that New Deal walked to get here, as well as to examine what route (or routes) are possible for us moving forward. It has always been important to us to connect and be a part of our community here in Portland. While our hearts want to gather–heck, we long to turn on some disco lights and party on the roof–we feel that production of our spirits has to take priority right now.
First and foremost, we are makers and crafters, creatives and resourceful tinkerers who brought you Portland’s first craft vodka, a myriad of experimental rums, and grain-to-glass aged spirits. Those who have visited us before know that our distillery and Tasting Room shared a space, which is very cool until a global pandemic makes sharing space decidedly… uncool. This reality is of course mixed with a complex web of spirit regulations, construction plans, and production projects. So for now (but not forever), we will keep from fully re-opening our doors.
Tastings, classes and events remain on pause while our Bottle Shop, Curbside Pickup, and production remain in motion. We still love to talk spirits, cocktails, and distilling techniques and do hope you stop by to shop for your spirits and home bar needs (and just to say hi – we do miss you!).
This pause does not mean that we’re in hibernation! We have a lot of plans and collaborations in the works at the Bottle Shop. We hope to provide a space for young craft beverage brands to showcase new offerings, for guest makers to chat about their process and for members of the local craft beverage community to share their expertise. Stay tuned for more details and a lot of fun around the corner.
Thank you, Portland, for your years of support – we can’t wait to party with you again!
