Douglas Fir buds, the freshly sprouted tips of Oregon’s favorite conifer, make for an unexpected garnish that lifts and complements the citrus in this spring cocktail. When pressed gently, these delicate and fully edible buds release a grapefruit and resin-like aroma that’s wonderful in cocktails.
- 1½ oz Distiller’s Workshop Bierschnapps
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- grapefruit citrus soda (we like to use classic Squirt)
- 3-4 Douglas Fir buds for garnish
Combine ingredients in a small rocks glass over ice. Stir gently to incorporate. To extract the incredible citrus and pine aromas of the Douglas Fir buds, take three to four small buds and place them in the palm of your left hand. Then, using your right hand, roll them between your palms to gently bring the oils to the surface of the tips. Then place on top of the ice so every sip brings them gently under your nose.
