Baking with New Deal Spirits: Think Like a Baker

New Deal Apple Cake Recipe

Added for flavor, depth, and a bit of kick, spirits like brandy, rum, and liqueurs have long been part of baking traditions. This past fall we teamed up with pastry pro, Liz Clements of Think Like A Baker to develop some fun baking recipes using our spirits. Liz created some serious show stoppers like this Buttery Apple Cake with Ginger Liqueur Glaze and a gorgeous Spiced Rum and Almond Pound Cake.

We were super impressed with the Brandy Glazed Cider Donut and the Spiced Rum Meltaway Cookies — who wouldn’t want buttery, delicate shortbread cookies kissed with Spiced Rum and orange zest? Or a delightful, tastes-great-on-everything Boozy Caramel Sauce? She came up with some dynamite combinations we never would have thought to try. Coffee Liqueur in Pecan Pie? Who knew it would be so good. We must say, this baking collaboration was definitely one of our better ideas. Shout out to Liz for knocking it out of the park!
